Textile artist
Maja Michaelsdotter Eriksson, born in 1985 in Lund, Sweden, is a textile artist based in Malmö, Sweden. She holds a MFA in Crafts and Textile Arts from HDK-Valand Art and Design School in Gothenburg and studied at Östra Grevie Folkhögskola and Malmö Folkhögskola. Maja is specialized in tufting, a half industrial carpet-making technique and creates tufted sculptures inspired by everyday life. She has previously exhibited at the Swedish National Museum, ArkDes, Liljevalchs, and many national and international venues. She is represented in private collections in Sweden and abroad, as well as in the Swedish Public Art Agency’s collection. She received twice the Young Swedish Design Award (Ung Svensk Form), in 2017 and 2019, and received the prestigious Lauritz Arts and Crafts Award (Lauritz Konsthantverkspris) in October 2021. Maja is now working in Malmö where she is setting up her own tufting studio.
