FAQs

What are the criteria for the selection of artist or designer and writer?

Residence Sigrid offers residencies to professional designers, artists, and writers based in Sweden who identify as women or non-binary. Applications are reviewed by a professional jury who selects one artist and one writer for each residency period. Applicants are assessed based on their artistic practice, their ability to work across disciplines, their potential to contribute to the context of Collioure and relation to the theme. Applicants are also expected to align with the core principles of Misschiefs.

Is there a scholarship linked to the residency?

Residence Sigrid offers a stipend of 20,000 SEK per person. Travel to and from Collioure is arranged and covered by the resident. Meals, insurance and personal expenses are the responsibility of the resident.

What is included in the residence?

Each resident stays in an individual fully fitted furnished house of 45m2 situated in the heart of Collioure. The two small houses are adjacent to each other in Le Miradou, a historic artists’ district in the old and central part the village, five minutes walking distance to all shops and to the sea. A separate art studio space (16m²) is available for the artist or designer on the ground floor of one of the houses. The residency also includes access to a casot, a traditional vineyard shelter built in stone overlooking the sea and mountains, offering a place for solitude and deeper engagement with the surrounding landscape. The casot is 30min walking distance from Collioure. A host is present nearby throughout the residency period to support residents’ immersion and comfort.

How big is the studio space?

16m2

Do I get a travel stipend?

Travel to and from Collioure is arranged and covered by the artist. Residence Sigrid offers 20,000 SEK per person in stipend.

Do I need to reflect on the theme in my application?

Yes. Residence Sigrid introduces a new theme each year, which artists, designers and writers are invited to engage with in their application. That said, the residency is open-ended and there is no requirement to produce a finished outcome.

What do you mean by "writer"?

Eligible applicants are writers and practitioners whose work uses writing as a primary methodological or expressive instrument, whether through essays, criticism, research or interdisciplinary forms. Particular consideration will be given to applicants whose work engages substantially with discourses in art, design, visual culture or related fields at the intersection of critical theory and cultural production.

Can I as an artist or designer apply together with a writer?

You may apply to Residence Sigrid as an individual artist, designer, or writer. Applications from duos are also welcome, provided that one applicant is an artist or designer and the other is a writer.

We are a collective of two people. Can we apply?

Yes you can. There is the possibility of sleeping in two separate beds in the same house. However the stipend of 20,000 SEK will be shared between the two persons of the duo.

Do you have to know French?

No. Knowledge of French is not required, though it may enrich your stay and facilitate engagement with the local community.

Can you bring children to the residence in Collioure?

No. The residency is intended for adults and cannot accommodate children.

Are the facilities accessible for people with physical disabilities?

At present, the residency does not have the capacity to accommodate people with physical disabilities.

What are the community expectations?

The residency supports artistic development while encouraging meaningful cultural exchange with the local cultures of Catalonia and France. Residents are therefore invited to engage with the local context—its people, language, nature, and crafts.

Are there two different types of residencies?

During or after their stay, resident artists, designers and writers may apply to return with a project rooted in the local context. These longer-term projects aim to generate new experiences in compelling locations and to attract both local and national attention. Supporting experimental practices, maintaining visibility, and advancing the mission of Misschiefs are central priorities. The extended production residency, lasting up to twelve weeks, offers the opportunity to develop a site-specific project in collaboration with local partners.

How to travel to Collioure?

Collioure can be reached from Sweden by plane or train. The fastest option is to fly to Barcelona, Montpellier or Perpignan and continue by train to Collioure. Train travel via Germany and France is also possible for those preferring a slower and more sustainable journey. Collioure has its own train station with regular regional connections via Perpignan, and can also be reached via the overnight train from Paris to Collioure.

Do I need to bring my artist material? Is there a place to buy material?

Residence Sigrid does not provide material support, and residents are generally expected to bring the materials they need for their practice. However, depending on specific needs, we may be able to help identify possible solutions in special cases. There are also local art and hardware shops nearby where basic materials and supplies can be purchased.

When will I get an answer?

The jury will meet in mid-September and the decision will be announced in November.
