Maria Pita Guerreiro (born 1991, Portugal) is a Stockholm-based experimental designer and artist. After studying product design, graphic design, and painting in Lisbon, she moved to Sweden for an MFA in Design at Konstfack.
Maria's practice is at the intersection of craft, art, design, science, and health. Her work explores natural systems, rituals, feminism, self-care, and the body. She has a longstanding interest in designing with the “disgusting” or “repulsive” and the tension that emerges from those feelings. mainly through her favorite mediums: fungi and bacteria. Her process is often collaborative, especially when working with living organisms and biological systems, where she works closely with researchers and other experts.
She has participated in numerous art and design residencies throughout Europe, and her work has been featured internationally at design fairs, museums, and galleries. Her most recent solo show, WINTER BLUES, was presented at Konstepidemin in Göteborg.
Maria joined Misschiefs as a guest artist for the group exhibition Fine Dying, for which she created the ceremonial sculptures GOBLET and TORCH, exhibited in Stockholm, Milan, and Paris.
